Social Work & Counseling

Hey y’all! My name is Amanda Wilson (she/her, What's this?). I am the social worker at Newton Collins Elementary School, and I absolutely love this community! 

I began my career in education as an afterschool program director for a bilingual musical at Ridgetop Elementary School in Austin ISD. During the 4 years that I held this position, I began to realize that I thrived more talking with students about mental health or their lives than I did as their musical director. This propelled me to make the switch to social work! 

I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with my Master of Social Work in 2022 where I learned to utilize restorative practices, mindfulness, and play therapy.

I am honored to be with students as a social worker and offer a listening ear, support, or any referrals to community resources that they might need

Hello, I am Corey Hume and I am so excited to join Newton Collins Elementary as the new school counselor! I have been part of the Del Valle ISD family for the past 12 years. After beginning as a teaching assistant in 2011, I became a special education teacher, teaching for 5 years before completing my Master of Education in School Counseling. I have spent the past 6 years as a school counselor in the district and I am thrilled to become a Collins Kangaroo! I am looking forward to working with you all to support your students throughout their time at Collins!
